The interior and architectural form of this beachfront restaurant & bar was inspired by the rich marine life and biodiversity in the waters off the resort hotel. It recalls a beached jellyfish, supple and translucent, resting gently on the white-washed sand. The structure is light, composed of steel and concrete, such that weight and mass are minimised to enable a diaphanous roof. Guests approach through the resort’s garden, towards the setting sun. In the evening, pin points of light along the approach route sway on the thin aluminium rods like fireflies. The design of the interior plays on the marine narrative in a number of ways including the use of translucent fibre optic ‘jellyfish’ lamps surrounding the bar.
